Today is the beginning of your experience in the Khmer Empire start the day visiting the awe inspiring Temples of Angkor for a full day of discovery. First we visit the “Great City” of Angkor Thom, built in the late 12th Century, entering its impressive stone gates and seeing the exuberant carvings, provide a fascinating insight into the Khmer Kingdom. Within the Royal enclosure you will see the Bayon temple, the Phimeanakas Temple, the Baphoun Temple, the Terrace of the Elephants and the Terrace of the Leper King. After lunch we continue on to the most famous temple of the former Khmer kingdom, Angkor Wat. This architectural masterpiece was constructed back in the 12th century and covers an area of around 210 hectares, and today is considered as an architectural masterpiece around the world. Inside, the walls are decorated with beautiful hand carvings and bas-reliefs illustrating Hindu mythology and over 2000 Aspara dancers ornate the temple walls. Having explored Angkor, we head back to our hotel to relax before enjoying this evenings dinner which will be accompanied by a traditional Apsara dance and culture show
Day 3 Siem Reap
This morning we visit the Roluos Group of monuments which are some of the earliest permanent temples ever built by the Khmer which provided the blueprint for structures that would dominate the kingdom for a further four centuries. These monuments include Preah Ko, which was erected by Indravarman I in the late 9th century, Bakong, which is the largest and most interesting of the Roluos group temples, Takeo, Thomannom, Chau Say Thavoda and Ta Prohm temples, The latter being one the most beautiful temples in this area which has remained relatively untouched and intact and was discovered after being hidden amongst the jungle over the centuries.
Day 4 Siem Reap
After Breakfast visit Banteay Srei located 35km from Siem Reap, built at a time when the Khmer Empire was gaining significant power the temple displays some of the finest classic Khmer Art, also visit Pre Rub with its beautifully carved false doors on the upper levels. After lunch drive to Chong Kneas and take a boat trip to the fishing villages, cruise through the villages of the Tonle Sap to discover the natural splendour and old lifestyle of the country. The Tonle Sap Lake is one of the natural wonders of the world. Due to the cycle of annual flood water, the Great Lake serves as a main source of freshwater fish and as the foundation of the Great Angkor Empire dating from some 1000 years.
Day 5 Siem Reap - Phnom Penh
Spend the Morning free before your lunchtime flight to Phnom Penh. In the afternoon visit the local markets
Day 6 Phnom Penh
We spend the morning first visiting the Killing fields at Choeung Ek, which is a stark reminder of the brutality of the former Khmer Rouge regime. It is rumored that more than 17000 souls perished here. Then visit Tuol Sleng Museum, which was a former high school, converted into a prison and used as a torture center by the Khmer Rouge in 1975,
Day 7 Phnom Penh - Sihanoukville
This morning we take a drive to the beach resort of Sihanoukville Upon arriving you can relax and enjoy the rest of your day, swimming, sunbathing and snorkeling in the beautiful clear waters at this relaxing, unspoiled beach destination.
