Day 1 Hanoi Arrival Hotel in Hanoi
Upon your arrival in Hanoi, you’ll be greeted and transferred to your hotel at the city centre. In the afternoon explore a little of downtown or enjoy a traditional music performance, and a good, light-hearted introduction to the country’s culture.
Day 2 Hanoi Orientation (B)
"On this insightful day through Ha Noi’s busy tree lined boulevards, you’ll explore such interesting and historic sites as The Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum and Museum, One pillar pagoda and Temple of Literature. The interesting Museum of Ethnology is also on the list, which give you an overview of Vietnam’s 54 distinct ethnic groups in anticipation of your trip to Sapa. In the afternoon, take your time to discover the city daily life in whatever you fancy. The Old Quarter is a maze of shopping streets and restaurants with a hotchpotch of architecture - traditional tube houses, religious buildings, artisans' workshops and cottages. Take a break with at a hidden cafe and enjoy a panorama of Hoan Kiem lake. An alternative for this afternoon or a possible extension is a Vietnamese Cooking Class visit a family restaurant and meet the chef visit a local market to learn about Vietnamese ingredients and try your skills in bargaining and buying among the locals. Returning to the restaurant, you'll try your hands on cooking some typical Northern Vietnamese dishes representative of the North of Vietnam."
Day 3 Hanoi - Mai Chau (160 km) (L/D)
Travelling from Hanoi quickly find yourself in the countryside passing through dramatic limestone mountains, passes and valleys before winding downhill to the Mai Chau valley of the Thai People. Walk around the villages and learn about the hilltribes here, dinner and a traditional dance with local rice wine will be on the menu. Overnight at one of there stilt homes.
Day 4 Mai Chau (B/L)
Lots of activities to choose from today including Visiting Mo Luong (Soldier) Cave, Cycling , Trekking, Handicraft Tour, Kayaking and Boating , Cooking
Day 5 Mai Chau – Moc Chau - Son La (160 km) (B/L)
Drive through orchids, tea plantations and towering mountains, meet various ethnic groups. Visit the former colonial prison at Son La.
Day 6 Son La - Dien Bien Phu (170 km) (B/L)
Pass by small villages on the journey to Dien Bien Phu, the last base of the French in Indochina, which was overrun by the Vietnamese in 1954.
Day 7 Dien Bien Phu - Muong Lay - Lai Chau (200 km) (B)
The road through the Lai Chau valley is breathtaking, hugging rice terraced mountainsides and fording turbulent rivers. See many ethnic groups along the way, overnight in the colourful town of Tam Duong.
Day 8 Lai Chau - Sapa (90km) (B/L)
Continue uphill winding through the Tram Ton Pass the highest mountain pass in Vietnam. The views of the Northern mountain ranges are spectacular, the highest in Southeast Asia. Sapa is an old French hill station and a busy market town for the regional minority groups. A town in the clouds, with cool refreshing air.
Day 9 Sapa - Ta Phin - Hanoi(4 hours) (B)
The following morning visit Taphin, hike through the paddy fields to reach H’mong and Red Zao communities, skilled in silk embroidery. Visit the Taven Village with various ethnic communities before arriving at Lao Cai for your soft sleeper train back to Hanoi.
Day 10 Sapa - Ta Phin - Hanoi(4 hours) (B)
The following morning visit Taphin, hike through the paddy fields to reach H’mong and Red Zao communities, skilled in silk embroidery. Visit the Taven Village with various ethnic communities before arriving at Lao Cai for your soft sleeper train back to Hanoi.
Day 11 Hanoi - Halong Bay (B)
Arrive in Hanoi and transfer to a local hotel to freshen up. After breakfast transfer three hours to the world heritage site of Halong Bay – A magical bay full of limestone karsts and stunning turquoise water. As you board your junk cruise you will have welcome drinks and lunch will be served as you set sail. There is an opportunity to relax on a quite beach or sunbathe on deck. In the afternoon visit a fishing village. Once back on board unwind under the stars while dinner is served.
Day 12 Halong Bay - Hanoi (B/L)
In the morning there is an opportunity to try Tai Chi while the sun is still rising. After breakfast continue to cruise through the Bay stopping at limestonegrotto before returning to Halong Bay. From here you will transfer back to Hanoi where you are free to relax for the rest of the afternoon.
